Is it worth looking at video games in the light of cinema? The aim of this paper is to examine the cinematic aesthetics and narrative elements in video games, as well as, the similarities between these two forms of audiovisual media. Even though films and computer games might be perceived very differently, the use the same cinematic sequences. This thesis includes the aspect of cinematic cut-scenes in games and the stylization of game's interpretation of cinematic visuals. It shows that gameplay is influenced by camera (position and motion), lighting, art direction according to the specific style of film with the stylization of game graphics according to established film genres such as film noir, horror, western and action- adventure. Modern games relate to film and cinematic styles in a various ways. All these factors put together can make a game like a film itself. The main focus is on the interactive aesthetic influences between films and games.
